We got lucky with our latest LA video production -- literally! Lucky Brand jeans called on our San Diego video crew to shoot a series of employee training videos inside their flagship store at The Grove shopping center in Los Angeles. The LA-based denim brand goes to great lengths training its sales associates to help shoppers find perfect-fitting jeans. Using our video segments, employees at Lucky Brand's 177 retail stores will learn tips and techniques to help customers add jackets, sweaters, accessories and other complementary items -- all without costing a fortune. Now that's what we call lucking out!

A magazine
show feature on children with Autism was chosen for a national
Gracie Award. The story, shot by Solana Productions, focused on
dads trying to solve the mystery of their sons' illness.
Banding together, they raised enough funding and enough consciousness
to become the "founding fathers" of a unique facility
-- the M.I.N.D. Institute at U.C. Davis Medical Center near Sacramento
-- a Manhattan Project for autism research and treatment.
For 29 years, the American Women in Radio and Television has been
a leader in electronic media by honoring programming that is created
by women, for women and about women, as well as recognizing individuals
who have made outstanding contributions to the industry.
Producer Angela Shelly recognized Solana Productions' contribution
in her acceptance speech. This was a difficult and time consuming
story to shoot. It required spending a very long day with mentally
handicapped adults and took a lot of patience and sensitivity
to light and get the shots.
Solana
Productions, Inc. and Solana Productions Northwest have been honored
with 25 EMMYS and over 60 nominations for video production. This
includes awards for producing, sports producing, writing, photography
and editing.
One of the most unusual stories was a San Diego video production about two older women who repair uniforms for the Chargers. The story aired on CBS and followed the tortured uniforms from game day to the women's station wagon, sewing in their sunroom and finally back on the players. Our story producing, writing and video editing were awarded individual EMMY awards.
Another magazine show story about drug smuggling and the US Customs won photography and producing EMMYS. Our crews shot from planes, helicopters and 4-wheel drive vehicles following Customs agents in pursuit of smugglers.
Solana Productions Northwest won two EMMY awards for a Seattle video production about local artists designing unusual manhole covers. While that may not sound too unique, these manhole covers when stepped on produced blasts of zenon light which would illuminate the entire area and provoke interesting reactions from passersby. The story also led to Stan being honored as Feature Photographer of the Year by the National Press Photographer's Association.
We've also been honored with 2 national IRIS awards, a Golden Mic. and both silver and bronze medals from the New York International Film Festival.
