  • Rachel Ray's Ugly Kitchen Makeover

Rachel Ray has spent a lot of time in the kitchen. On her shows they always have the latest appliances and utensils. But she knows viewers don't always have that luxury so she decided to do something about it.

The Rachel Ray show asked viewers to submit photos of their ugly kitchens. They wanted the smallest, least equipped, most depressing dungeons. And did they ever get them.....Solana's crews taped an entry from California that finished in second place. With barely enough room to turn around and a broken oven it was a strong contender. In spite of its limitations the owner fed a family of four and ran a catering business from that kitchen.

    Wildfire!

HDNet BadgeA dry winter and howling winds has made for a busy fire season. Solana's crews have followed fire crews through four Southern California counties. This included the Riverside fire that killed several firefighters.

Covering fires is not for everyone. Our crews, working without producers, drive to the fire area and then patrol the perimiter until they find the "good stuff". This often means jumping out of the car, shooting handheld behind fast moving firemen chasing an even faster moving fire. It's been said that you know you got good suff when you return with singed shoes and smokey smells coving the gear and your clothing.

    Solana Stages HP "Gameshow"

Solana Productions transformed a meeting hall into a television studio for a Hewlett-Packard contest. Several groups of employees had developed plans for new business opportunities. Each group had ten minutes to "sell" the bosses.

The shoot required several cameras, stage, lighting, a mobile control room and post production. The California Center for the Performing Arts was turned into HP's version of Donald Trump's "The Apprentice." Except in the show nobody lost their job and all participants were praised for coming up with creative concepts. What were they? Sorry, that's confidential.

With the Hollywood awards season now in full swing, the stars are running from one red carpet to another – and Solana Productions, Inc., is with them every step of the way.

It all began Jan. 6 at the Palm Springs International Film Festival, where Brad Pitt, Cate Blanchett, Kate Winslet and Jessica Biel were among the stars honored. Pitt flew in from Los Angeles with the director and cast of “Babel” and created a flashbulb frenzy as he arrived for the awards gala at the the Palm Springs Convention Center.

At the Golden Globes Jan. 15, Solana staffers were again pressed into service by “Entertainment Tonight” for its extensive coverage of the annual awards ceremony. In February, Solana crews will again be wearing tuxedoes for the Grammy Awards, the Screen Actors Guild Awards, the Independent Spirit Awards and the Oscars.
